Why use a reverse phone directory?
I don't exactly know the reason why you need a reverse phone directory but that doesn't stop me from giving you information on how to find the best one.
My name is Darren and I've been in this area for over 20 months. I have seen many reverse phone websites, tried many but only a few left me a good impression. Those are shared here.
Let's get started!
Free way to do reverse phone search
Before deciding to join any premium (paid) reverse phone search service let's explore some free directories.
1. White Pages
- White Pages is the biggest free reverse phone website on the internet. Use it first and you might get some results on the phone number you have.
2. Anywho
- Anywho is also amazing website for reverse number search. It has a smaller database than White Pages but it also containts some numbers that White Pages doesn't always provides.
3. 411 Reverse Phone Number Lookup
- Another great website for reverse searches.
3 Things to be aware of when Using the Above Service
1. Be sure to type the correct number
- Yes I know it might be obvious but if you don't type the number correctly...those search engines don't give you something like a spell check. So be sure to check if you entered the right number.
2. There's a difference between searching cell phones vs. landline numbers
There are some premium services that allow you to search cell phones like Reverse Phone Detective (see this Reverse Phone Detective review for more information. White Pages, AnyWho and 411 reverse lookup look after landlines primarily.
3. There's not one 'best site'
All of the sites mentioned have their own advantages and disadvantages. In order to increase the probability of find more data, you should use them all.
Find where the owner of the number lives, search by prefix and zip code
One another great resource for finding more about a phone number is Fond Finder where you can search by zip, prefix and find more information on the owner of the phone number.
Some mistakes to avoid while doing a reverse number search
1. Free is not always free
There are too many services on the web that say they can provide you with free reverse searches. But what they do is simply give you some basic details like name of carrier, location and then charge you for showing you the name and address of the owner.
As we've seen that information can often times be obtained for free using the resources below.
2. RESEARCH before you invest in a service
If you think that a paid service is better for this think agian. Please carefully research the company before you make a final decision. Check Better Business Bureau page to see the rating of the site, see reviews on the internet that other users have put and so on.

You need a reverse phone directory when you are getting pestered or harrassed by someone who is hiding behind a phone number, as long as you can see caller ID. You might also use it when a business or a classified ad only supplies the number and you want to see WHO is behind the number, possibly for legal reasons. I placed a contact comment on your profile - as a fan! Geoff D.
